American Hickory Drumsticks in Multiple Colors at a great price

There are many cheap drumsticks on Amazon these days, but unfortunately, a lot of them are made from maple. Ironically, maple is used on high-end drum sets but ends up on low-end drumsticks.

Not that all maple sticks are terrible—maple actually sounds lovely on cymbals and can be perfect for jazz or quieter acoustic music. But if you're rocking out, playing pop, or especially metal, you’ll want something stronger.

Hickory is widely considered the best wood for drumsticks. It's heavier than maple and thanks to its long grain, it doesn’t snap as easily. Oak is also great, though pricier and less common. That’s why hickory dominates quality stick production.

BLUEFIRE drumsticks

Just recently I stumbled upon these BLUEFIRE drumsticks — they’re made from hickory, priced right, and come in colors like green, white, natural, black, red, and yellow. An amazing deal at $14.99 for 3 pair.

I did some digging and found out BLUEFIRE is actually manufactured by HUN drumsticks — a legit brand from China, not generic. One of my students brought back a pair from a trip, and they’ve held up beautifully over time.

Even better, Amazon carries HUN sticks directly now! They come in even cooler colors than BLUEFIRE, although they’re a bit pricier at $26.83 for 3 pair.

HUN drumsticks

Not going to lie—I'm a sucker for brightly colored sticks. They really pop on video or under stage lights. Both brands are solid deals, and I can vouch for HUN’s quality firsthand.

I almost always buy LA Special Drum Sticks

Why LA Special Drum Sticks Are My Go-To Choice

When it comes to drumsticks, I’ve tried just about every brand out there—from boutique custom shops to big-name staples. But nothing hits quite like the LA Special Drum Sticks. Made by ProMark, these sticks feel like a throwback to the classic ProMark design I grew up with—before the newer models started chasing trends instead of sticking to what worked.

What makes the LA Specials stand out? For starters, they’re crafted from hickory and feature an oval nylon or wood tip. These days I prefer nylon tip, but in the past I used to like the wood ones. Whichever you prefer, both are high quality. But it’s not just about specs—it’s about feel. These sticks have a balance and weight that reminds me of the older ProMark builds, back when consistency and durability were the name of the game.

And here’s the kicker: you can grab three pairs for only $16.50. That’s not a typo. Three pairs. Six sticks. Less than twenty bucks. I’ve been using them for years, and I can count on one hand the number of bad pairs I’ve received. That kind of reliability is rare, especially at this price point.

Whether you’re a beginner looking for a solid starter set or a seasoned drummer who’s tired of overpriced sticks that chip after one gig, the LA Specials are worth a serious look. Check them out here and see why I keep coming back to them.

Closer to Classic ProMark Than ProMark Itself

It’s ironic, but true—the LA Specials feel more like the old ProMark than the current ProMark lineup does. The grip, the taper, the response on rebound—it’s all there. If you’ve been chasing that vintage ProMark vibe, this is your shortcut.

Plus, they’re made in the USA, if you care about that. ProMark’s commitment to quality hasn’t disappeared—it’s just been quietly preserved in this underrated line. Grab your set here and see for yourself.

Final Thoughts

Drumsticks are personal. What works for one player might feel off to another. But if you’re looking for sticks that deliver on feel, durability, and price, the LA Specials are hard to beat. I trust them on stage, in the studio, and everywhere in between.

Want to give them a shot? Here’s the link again. Let your hands decide.
