There are many cheap drumsticks on Amazon these days, but unfortunately, a lot of them are made from maple. Ironically, maple is used on high-end drum sets but ends up on low-end drumsticks.
Not that all maple sticks are terrible—maple actually sounds lovely on cymbals and can be perfect for jazz or quieter acoustic music. But if you're rocking out, playing pop, or especially metal, you’ll want something stronger.
Hickory is widely considered the best wood for drumsticks. It's heavier than maple and thanks to its long grain, it doesn’t snap as easily. Oak is also great, though pricier and less common. That’s why hickory dominates quality stick production.
Just recently I stumbled upon these BLUEFIRE drumsticks — they’re made from hickory, priced right, and come in colors like green, white, natural, black, red, and yellow. An amazing deal at $14.99 for 3 pair.
I did some digging and found out BLUEFIRE is actually manufactured by HUN drumsticks — a legit brand from China, not generic. One of my students brought back a pair from a trip, and they’ve held up beautifully over time.
Even better, Amazon carries HUN sticks directly now! They come in even cooler colors than BLUEFIRE, although they’re a bit pricier at $26.83 for 3 pair.
Not going to lie—I'm a sucker for brightly colored sticks. They really pop on video or under stage lights. Both brands are solid deals, and I can vouch for HUN’s quality firsthand.
